« am: 20.02.2016, 14:06:27 »
Hello everyone and excuse me for writing in English, i don't speak German unfortunately

I came across this tractor a while back, and i'm trying to figure out what model it is.I know the photo doesn't help much, but it's all i have for now.It seems like a 4R2 to me,but you are the experts  ;).Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hello,

it is definitely a 4S ... Whether it's a 4S1 or 4S2 I can not say now that the other experts are in demand .
Where the MAN stands for ?

Hier in Deutsch:

Hallo,

Hello and thank you for your answer

The tractor is located in a village in Greece. The former owners were my grandfather and his cousin, they both have passed away sadly.I came across the MAN by luck,it has severe bodywork damage (mostly at the rear wheel fenders) and has been sitting there abandoned for many years.I intent to buy and restore it,if the current owner is willing to sell it.Here's a picture of it when it was still new.It must have been one of the first tractors in the village back then...

Do you have more pictures of the tractor ?
It would be nice if it works again .

Or is it a 4t1 ?

Hello again,i revisited the tractor after 1 year and here are the photographs i promised you

The original D9624 motor is still here. The exhaust is badly rusted, but maybe we can repair it.Someone has tampered with the generator, and that cover on the transmission has been left partly open so water could get in.Not good.

From the rear.Original rear lights missing, and the right fender is badly smashed.

That patch on the inner right fender side surely is a later repair, but maybe that won't be a problem because i don't know if that rear fender is repairable

Air filter housing top part is not there.I don't know what that open piece on the right is,but it must be corroded from all the water getting in

Headlights missing, plus the radiator cover with the MAN emblem is not there.Open radiator for water to get in,means 100% chance of rust and puncture.Again, not good.

Hello Drys,

obviously has this 4S1 an engine oil cooler.  Do you have more photographs, especially from the adapter plate at the right side?  Furthermore is it great to see such photographs from those very rare export tractors, thank you for sharing them with us!

Best regards from Norway

Hello,

the 4s1 is quite rare, about 400 were built before it got replaced with the almost identical 4s2. The 4s2 also didn't reach the 1000 built mark.

This one would need a full engine rebuild since water had gotten inside the engine. My guess: in W-Europe it would be worth around 7000-8000 in this state.

Hello again..

From my point of view are the 4S1 rare, with only 383 units built. ;)  Compared with the A50A, with a number of 20, certainly not, but the 4S2 are with 962 more common...

The oil cooler is at the left side of the oil pan, connected with two water hoses from the water pump/radiator and two oil tubes under the oil pan to the "adapter plate" at the right side of the engine.

Best regards

Even in such a bad condition,it's worth that much money...wow! Back in 1956 in Greece, most people still used mules for their fields.Buying a 4WD 50hp tractor must have cost a fortune, maybe that's why both my grandfather and his cousin were the owners, they couldn't afford it on their own.We are contacting the owner in the next days,i hope he will be willing to sell it.

Again, thank you everyone for helping even though i can't write in German.Sorry about that.
